Prince George’s County Police have identified a female pedestrian was fatally struck by a county bus in downtown Upper Marlboro on July 31.

Patsy Stokes Burton, 69, of La Plata was attempting to cross Main Street sometime after 10:30 a.m. when she was struck by the bus, which was turning left onto Main Street from Water Street, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Michael Gonnella, Upper Marlboro police chief, said Burton was an employee at a health and wellness institute on Water Street. Police believe Burton was walking to the post office because officers found letters and packages on her, Gonnella said.

The name of the bus driver has not been released, said county police spokesman Cpl. Nate Lewis, and no charges have been filed.

Prince George’s County police are investigating the incident, Lewis said.
