Rockville police say they have arrested two Rockville men in connection with an assault Tuesday night at the Twinbrook Shopping Center on Veirs Mill Road.

Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez, 28, of the 5000 block of Aspen Hill Road, and Simon Alexander Serpas Villalta, 27, of the 3000 block of Twinbrook Parkway, were arrested without incident, according to a city news release issued Friday. Rodriguez was charged with attempted armed robbery and two counts of first-degree assault. Villalta was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the shopping center for a report of a man threatening people with a knife. Rodriguez asked someone in a store for a cigarette and money, police said. When the victim refused, Rodriguez cut his forearm with a knife and swung the knife at another person.

Villalta then threatened to kill an employee if the police were called, according to police, who said a kitchen knife was found nearby.

Rodriguez is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on $20,000 bail and Villalta is being held there on $10,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police department’s criminal investigations unit at 240-314-8938. Anonymous tips can be left at rockvillemd.gov/FormCenter/Police-Forms-3/Suspicious-Activity-Report-41.
