A crash in Brandywine on Thursday night left one passenger dead and another seriously injured.

Prince George’s County police responded to the 16300 block of McKendree Road in Brandywine at about 11 p.m. and saw the driver of a Ford Mustang running from the scene, according to a police statement.

Police believe the Mustang driver, believed to be a man about 20 years old, lost control of his car and hit a utility pole. Police also suspect speed was a factor in the accident.

One passenger was ejected from the Mustang and pronounced dead at the scene, but police are not releasing the identity until the victim’s family is notified. Another passenger found in the back seat of the car was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident can call the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at 301-306-5640.
