Montgomery College holds a facility that would put stars in an astronomer’s eyes, according to a list from collegerank.net.
College Rank placed the community college’s Rockville campus observatory in the 24th spot among the top 25 best college astronomy observatories in the country.
“To provide superior educational experiences to students and local residents alike, the Montgomery College Observatory leverages the power of two 15-inch Celestron telescopes, three 8-inch Celestron telescopes, and a traditional sliding-roof structure that allows for maximum visibility,” the site says.
According to the college’s website, the observatory is on the roof of its Rockville Science Center and also includes open space for those who want to bring their own telescope or other star-gazing device.
The facility’s uses include classes, research and public outreach, the college website says.
Members of the public can sign up for the next Observatory Guest Night on July 11 here.
Another area facility made the number one spot on College Rank’s list — the U.S. Naval Academy Observatory.
