The man who was struck by a train Tuesday afternoon at the Bethesda Metro station checked himself out of a hospital that night, transit officials said Wednesday.

The man, whom officials did not identify, sustained life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a slow-moving train at about 5 p.m., officials said Tuesday. He had been walking along the platform when he fell onto the tracks.

The Bethesda station, at 7450 Wisconsin Ave., was temporarily shut down, but had reopened by 6 p.m. to single-tracking trains, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
