The Bowie Recreation Council and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will host a free track program at Bowie High School from June 3 to July 31.
Students ages seven to 18 are welcome to join, and no experience is necessary, said John Shephard, director of the Huntington Community Center in Bowie, who helps organize the program.
“We started this free program several years ago and now it has grown to over 100 track runners,” he said. “It’s a great feeder program for the local high school teams. It gets kids involved with track at an early age.”
The program is run by Rich Andrulonis, a track coach at Bowie High school, and includes several track categories, including high jump, hurdles, discus, sprinting and race walking.
The program will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Bowie High School, located at 15200 Annapolis Road in Bowie.
