The American Legion Post 255 in Ridge held its annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 26.
Capt. Ben Shevchuk, the commanding officer of Patuxent River Naval Air Station, in his keynote address urged people to show support to family members of those serving away from home as well as widows of fallen veterans.
The captain said the traits of “valor, purity and vigilance” represented in the colors of the American flag are held by all service men and women.
The Memorial Day celebration began with the Ridge Rumble for Vets, featuring a parade of motorcycles and several demolition derby vehicles.
Post commander Skip Disharoon reminded those in attendance that Memorial Day means more than just “barbecues and sales,” and that everyone should take a moment to remember and honor those in the military for their service to the country.
