It is the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner, and residents can celebrate in Bowie by participating in the city’s annual Memorial Day Parade on May 24.
“What we are trying to have people remember what Memorial Day stands for,” said Matt Corley, Bowie special events coordinator. “It is a time to reflect on what price people have paid for the freedoms we have today.”
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Bowie High School Annex Building, 3021 Belair Drive, and marchers will travel along Belair Drive to Sussex Lane to Stonybrook Drive to Sage Lane, Corley said. Concessions and restrooms will be located at Acorn Hill Park.
Corley said residents are encouraged to bring their flags and wear red, white and blue.
