The Olney Lions participated in the Lions World Lunch Relay on April 4, by joining with Lions around the world. It was part of a celebration of 97 years of Lions service to their communities.
The Lunch Relay began in New Zealand at noon. Clubs around the world hosted lunches in different international time zones.
The Olney Lions were particularly excited about this event because they participated with their sister club in Olney, England. The English Olney Lions met for dinner, so they would be celebrating at the same as their Lion friends in Maryland.
“This Lunch Relay is not only an opportunity for our Lions around the world to celebrate together,” said Olney Lion and District Governor Dee Hawkins. “It is also an opportunity for us to have some fun together and raise awareness of the impact of the Olney Lions in our community.”
The service organization contributes to the community through its golf tournament, mulch sales and pancake and sausage breakfast. It also has a parking service at the Hospital Picnic and Bazaar, a scholarship program and vision screenings.
In addition, it supports the Our House residential job training program and provided eyeglasses to those who cannot afford them.
The Olney Lions Club is made up of 43 men and women. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month for fellowship and dinner at The Inn at Brookeville Farms. Visitors are welcome. For more information, contact David Kepner at 301-460-9082 or Paul Hawkins at 301-774-5229.
