A portion of Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda was shut down Tuesday due to a gas leak.
The leak was reported at around 10:45 a.m. A gas line between a quarter to three-quarters-inch thick was ruptured near Wisconsin and Woodmont avenues, according to MCFRS Battalion Chief Dee Howard Richards.
No formal evacuations were ordered, Richards said.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area. Wisconsin Avenue at Bethesda Avenue was shut down as a result of the leak, according to Montgomery County police spokeswoman Angela Cruz.
Roughly 35 firefighters were on the scene monitoring gas readings, according to Richards.
“We don’t have any readings in any of the structures,” Richards said.
