Evelyn Elsing will mark her retirement from the faculty of the University of Maryland with a recital scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center’s Gildenhorn Recital Hall in College Park. The program will include Elliott Carter’s “Cello Sonata.” Composed in 1948, it remains a major cornerstone in today’s repertoire. Elsing will be joined by UMD alumna, pianist Colette Valentine on Beethoven’s “D Major Sonata,” Piazzolla’s “Grand Tango,” and Chopin’s “Polonaise brillante, op. 3.” Admission is free.
