Three people, members of the American Humanist Association, are offended by the 1925 WWI cross-shaped monument, known as the Peace Cross, and have sued to have it removed.
The monument honoring the war dead has been a landmark in the county for 90 years. That this monument would be torn down to satisfy these three protesters, one of whom lives in the District, would be a disgrace to our county and a slap in the face to those whose memories it serves to honor. No references to Christianity are inscribed on the monument to render it religious. If it offends these three, I have a suggestion: Don’t look at it.
