A motorcyclist from Laurel was killed Saturday after rear-ending an SUV east of Damascus, Montgomery County police said in a news release.

Alan Evans, 51, of the 8600 block of Felsview Drive, struck the back of a Mercedes ML500 in the 6900 block of Annapolis Rock Road. The driver was turning right into a private driveway, police said in the news release.

Police responded to the scene at around 3:30 p.m. Despite life-saving efforts, an off-duty Howard County firefighter and Montgomery County rescuers were not able to save Evans, who died from his injuries at the scene.

The SUV driver and a front-seat passenger were not injured, police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said.

Montgomery County police have asked anyone with information about the crash to call its Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620 or call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
