Police were called after reports that shots were fired in a Chevy Chase neighborhood Friday morning.

Police were called to 8417 Freyman Drive off East West Highway at about 2 a.m. for a report of shots fired, according to Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Angela Cruz. When they arrived, they found spent shell casings outside the home, she said. Police Capt. Paul Starks said some shots were fired outside the home and a neighbor reported hearing them.

Two dozen SWAT team members responded to the scene and police made contact with the people inside the home, according to Capt. David Falcinelli.

“We made contact with them and they came out,” Falcinelli said.

Police said they found a semiautomatic or automatic weapon in the home, according to Falcinelli. Starks said that guns were recovered at the scene but would not confirm how many or their type.

“There is no indication thus far in the investigation that there was specific intent to harm a person; however whenever you discharge a firearm in an urban area or not that bullet travels a great distance very fast. Whether the person pulling the trigger is meaning to harm someone or not, someone could be hurt especially in a densely populated area,” Starks said.
