University Park will host a fair on March 8 to raise awareness about safety concerns within the community.
University Park has previously held safety forums, but this will be the town’s first safety event in a fair-format, said Michael Wynnyk, University Park police chief.
“It’s basically just going to be a community-based function,” he said. “We thought we’d change it a little bit and bring in some other people to participate.”
Wynnyk said the fair will feature booths run by the town’s citizen emergency response team, community groups and potentially locksmith and alarm vendors. Wynnyk said he also plans to have an informative display about auto theft and thefts from vehicles.
“[The fair will help residents] to take ownership in their community and support the community policing effort,” he said.
The safety fair will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at University Park Elementary School, 4315 Underwood St.
