Order the change of address cards: The Kensington White Flint post office earlier slated to move from the White Flint Mall to Edson Lane is being rerouted.
The U.S. Postal Service now plans to move the post office to Nicholson Lane sometime in late spring or early summer.
The agency had planned to move it from the mall to 5420 Edson Lane in North Bethesda. But in a letter Friday to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, Richard Hancock, a real estate specialist with the agency, wrote that the agency had decided to change the location of the upcoming move to 5056-B Nicholson Lane.
“The alternative was not economically viable,” Hancock wrote.
Ken Hartman, director of the regional center, said the agency could not come to an agreement with the Edson Lane property owner.
Hartman added that residents, including those on the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee, were pleased that the post office will remain in the business district in White Flint.
Both locations are within a mile from the current space at the mall.
The post office’s lease at the mall ends May 31, in anticipation of demolishing the mall and replacing it with a new mixed-use town center.
