A 29-year-old Olney man faces charges for allegedly robbing the Capital One bank in Olney.

Michael Williamson of the 3300 block of Buehler Court in Olney, was arrested Thursday and charged with armed robbery. He faces a preliminary hearing in court March 21.

The robbery was reported at 1:04 p.m. Thursday at the Capital One bank at 18104 Town Center Drive. Police said Williamson entered the bank and passed a note to the teller. The note demanded money and implied that he had a gun. After the teller handed over the cash, Williamson left the bank but not before he was caught on the bank’s surveillance camera.

At about 5:40 p.m., officers patrolling downtown Wheaton arrested Williamson for possession of marijuana. During a search, officers said they found cash in Williamson’s pants pocket later identified as proceeds from the bank robbery. Officers said Williamson was wearing a knit cap, similar to the cap worn by the robber.

Police said Williamson admitted to the bank robbery during questioning.

He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held on $75,000 bond.

No attorney was yet listed for Williamson in the case.
