Following three days without school this week, Montgomery County Public Schools students and staff will start class two hours late Thursday because of lingering hazardous weather conditions.

“We anticipate that some roads, sidewalks and parking lots will be icy in the morning and this will provide everyone a little more time to [safely] get to school in the morning,” Dana Tofig, a county school system spokesman, said in an email.

The school system will provide bus service on a two-hour-delayed schedule, according to the system’s official website.

The following are canceled: morning pre-kindergarten, morning half-day Head Start, and other morning half-day programs and field trips.

Other activities and programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. or earlier are also canceled.

Day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. Administrative offices will open on time.

The county school system closed Wednesday due to hazardous weather conditions. Schools already were closed Tuesday for a professional day for teachers and closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In Fairfax, schools are closed but offices are operating on time on Thursday. School Age Child Care centers are closed as well, and all after-school uses will not take place.

In Prince George’s schools are operating on a two-hour delay. In addition, work-study transportation will not take place and half-day Early Childhood Center, half-day special education programs and half-day pre-K are cancelled. Breakfast will be offered.
