Upper Marlboro’s Historical Committee will be holding a meeting Saturday to archive historical items and discuss upcoming plans for the town’s annual Marlborough event.

The meeting takes place at 9 a.m. at the Upper Marlboro Town Hall, 14211 School Lane, said Lt. Col. Kate Germano, committee chairwoman. The meeting will include an archiving session, in which the committee collects and scans historical documents into record, Germano said.

The meeting also will include planning for Marlborough Day 2014, an annual event celebrating the town. This year’s Marlborough Day is special, said Germano, because it will be the 200th anniversary of the town’s involvement in the War of 1812.

“We are looking for folks [who] have ideas to make it a great event,” Germano said.

The planning for Marlborough Day includes coordinating events, considering different booths and collecting volunteers, Germano said. Any area residents of Upper Marlboro and Greater Upper Marlboro are encouraged to attend, she said.
