This year’s Damascus American Legion Oratorical Contest will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Post 171, 10201 Lewis Drive, Damascus.

Competing in the Damascus section of the 78th national contest are senior Caitlin Augerson from Damascus High School, sophomores Emory Cole II and Aditya Kaliappan from Clarksburg High School, and freshman Anurudh Ganesan, also from Clarksburg High School.

The contestants will create and deliver an eight- to 10-minute oration on any aspect of the U.S. Constitution, followed by a three- to five-minute speech on one of four assigned constitutional topics.

First prize is $500 and a spot in the county-level contest; the second- and third-place finishers win $250 and $150, respectively.
