Takoma Park residents got a healthful start to the new year with the Fitness Expo on Saturday at the Takoma Park Recreation Center. Instructors gave visitors a taste of the fitness classes they offer, with free demonstrations in Zumba, step, ladies boot camp, Pilates, team fitness and jazzercise. About 150 people attended.
“It’s a way to kick off our new year and a way for the community to try out some of our classes,” said recreation supervisor John Webster, who organized the event along with Jurrel Cottman, also a recreation supervisor for the center. Center classes begin next week.
Representatives from the Life Chiropractic Clinic, the African American Health Program and the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County discussed health issues with residents, and the National Institute on Aging and Department of Health and Human Services provided health and nutrition literature.
The first 50 participants received free T-shirts provided by the Lions Club and Canteen Vending donated beverages. The Capital Community Soccer Club also supported the event and provided banners.
