A 24-year-old Chesapeake Beach man was killed in a Friday morning collision on Route 260 in Chesapeake Beach, according to reports from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Ray Sargent was killed in a collision with a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, driven by April Lea Wooden, 38, of Chesapeake Beach, according to police.

Police said at about 8:04 a.m. Dec. 13, members of the sheriff’s office patrol bureau and crash reconstruction team responded to the area of Route 260 and St. Andrews Drive in Chesapeake Beach. During the preliminary investigation, the Jeep, driven by Wooden, was heading west on Route 260, and as it approached the intersection at St. Andrews Drive, a black 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Sargent, entered the westbound lane of Route 260 in an attempt to make a left turn and continue heading east. The Eclipse was struck in the side, and both vehicles stopped on the eastbound grass median on Route 260, about 15 feet from the point of the collision.

Police said Sargent was not wearing a seat belt and was found unresponsive in the front seat of the vehicle. Emergency crews with the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and determined Sargent had died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Wooden was taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Cpl. Tom Phelps with the crash reconstruction team is conducting the investigation into the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Phelps at 410-535-2800 or email phelpsts@co.cal.md.us.
