A Rockville man died Sunday morning after the car he was driving smashed into a tree.

According to police, David Hernandez, 47, of Coral Sea Drive, was headed east on Aspen Hill Road when the 2002 Daewoo Nubira he was driving hit a tree near Iris Street.

Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident, according to police.

Rescue personnel also rescued a person from the front passenger seat, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

More details were not available Monday afternoon. A phone number for Hernandez’s residence was not available through public records.

The accident is still under investigation, police said. Anyone with information about the collision can call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
