A man and two juveniles were arrested for their alleged involvement in two assaults that took place in the city last weekend, sending at least one victim to the hospital, police say.
Eric Dashon Haynes, 19, Lee Steven Jandres, 17, and Derrick Antonio Morton, 17, all of Gaithersburg, have since been arrested and charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft, according to Gaithersburg city police officer Dan Lane. Online court records list Morton’s first name with one “r.”
Jandres and Morton are being charged as adults in the case, Lane said.
Online court records show that each of the three were being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
One of the assaults took place at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when two people were attacked by a group of men and women near West Deer Park Road and Summit Hall Road, Lane said. One of the victims was taken to a nearby hospital for a checkup after suffering non-life-threatening injuries, the other suffered minor injuries, according to Lane.
Police found a group matching the description of the assailants a few blocks away from where the assault took place and made an arrest, Lane said.
Police also believe that the group was behind a strong-arm robbery that took place on Gold Kettle Drive several hours earlier on Saturday night, he said. In that incident, he said, two boys were in a parking lot near the 100 block of Gold Kettle Drive, Lane said. Gaithersburg City Police believe the group approached the two boys and began talking to them, then attacked them, robbed them and ran off, Lane said.
Unlike in the Sunday incident, in the Saturday robbery, the alleged robbers did not know they victims, he said.
