The Gaithersburg community gathered Monday at the City Hall Concert Pavilion to recognize and honor past and present U.S. military members.
City officials, veterans and community organizations participated in a solemn Veterans Day wreath laying ceremony before heading to a reception inside City Hall.
Lt. Col. Lee Miller, a retired member of the U.S. Army, was the keynote speaker. A 1958 graduate of West Point, the Germantown resident served two tours in Vietnam and two in Germany. He is one of the founders of the West Point Wounded Warrior Mentoring program, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that assists combat wounded and ill servicemen and their spouses.
