A 58-year-old Maryland woman who was struck by an oncoming train at the Silver Spring Metro station has died from her injuries.
The incident took place shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Morgan Dye, a Metro spokeswoman.
According to Dye, the woman intentionally placed herself in the path of an inbound Red Line train. She died after being taken to a local hospital, Dye said.
Trains were single-tracking at the station for about two-and-a-half hours while authorities investigated the scene, Dye said. It was the third such incident that has occurred on Metro lines in 2013, she said.
