As high school football teams enter the final week of the regular season, 11 of the 25 public schools in Montgomery County are still battling for playoff berths. Five, Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg, Northwest, Paint Branch and Damascus, have clinched postseason games. Here’s a breakdown on what the others have to do to keep playing:

4A West Region

Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg and Northwest have clinched the top three seeds. If Quince Orchard defeats Wootton, the Cougars will earn the No. 1 seed and home field through the region finals.

If Gaithersburg defeats Paint Branch or Springbrook beats Northwest, Gaithersburg will finish ahead of Northwest.

If Gaithersburg beats Paint Branch and Wootton beats Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg would earn the No. 1 seed, Quince Orchard the No. 2 seed and Northwest the No. 3 seed. (Northwest’s result would not matter in this scenario.)

Northwest would claim the No. 1 seed if Northwest beats Springbrook, Wootton beats Quince Orchard, Paint Branch beats Gaithersburg, Richard Montgomery beats Clarskburg, Walter Johnson beats Bethesda-Chevy Chase, John F. Kennedy beats Sherwood and Montgomery Blair beats Walt Whitman. If Northwest gets the No. 1 seed, Quince Orchard would be the No. 2 seed and Gaithersburg the No. 3 seed.

If Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg and Northwest all lose, Quince Orchard will hold the No. 1 seed, Gaithersburg the No. 2 seed and Northwest the No. 3 seed.

If Clarksburg defeats Richard Montgomery, Clarksburg earns the No. 4 seed. If Blair defeats Whitman and Quince Orchard beats Wootton, Clarksburg will be the No. 4 seed.

If Whitman beats Blair and Richard Montgomery beats Clarksburg, Whitman would finish ahead of Clarksburg.

However, Wootton would pass a winning Whitman if Wootton beats Quince Orchard and at least five of six games go as listed (if a game appears twice, it counts twice): Bethesda-Chevy Chase over Walter Johnson, Churchill over Damascus, Churchill over Damascus, Rockville over Poolesville, Seneca Valley over Blake, Northwest over Springbrook.

If Richard Montgomery beats Clarksburg and Blair beats Whitman, Wootton would make the playoffs if it beats Quince Orchard and at least two of four games go as listed: Churchill over Damascus, Rockville over Poolesville, Seneca Valley over Blake, Randallstown over Magruder.

4A North Region

Paint Branch is guaranteed a top-two seed.

If Paint Branch beats Gaithersburg and Dundalk beats Perry Hall, Paint Branch would receive the No. 1 seed.

If Gaithersburg beats Paint Branch and Perry Hall beats Dundalk, Paint Branch would receive the No. 2 seed.

If Paint Branch and Perry Hall both win, Paint Branch would receive the No. 1 seed only if at least two of eight games go as listed: Bethesda-Chevy Chase over Walter Johnson, Blair over Whitman, Blake over Seneca Valley, Churchill over Damascus, Einstein over Watkins Mill, Springbrook over Northwest, Sparrows Point over Overlea, Dulaney over Towson.

If Paint Branch Perry Hall both lose, Paint Branch would receive the No. 1 seed only if at least five of eight games go as listed: Bethesda-Chevy Chase over Walter Johnson, Blair over Whitman, Blake over Seneca Valley, Churchill over Damascus, Einstein over Watkins Mill, Springbrook over Northwest, Sparrows Point over Overlea, Dulaney over Towson.

If Sherwood beats Kennedy, Sherwood will make the playoffs as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed.

If Parkville beats Kenwood and Northwest beats Springbrook, Sherwood will make the playoffs as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed.

The only way for Sherwood to land the No. 3 seed is Sherwood beating Kennedy, Long Reach beating Howard and at least three of seven games going as listed: Blair over Whitman, Magruder over Randallstown, Richard Montgomery over Clarksburg, Springbrook over Northwest, Glenelg over Atholton, Oakland Mills over Wilde Lake, Reservoir over River Hill.

If Kennedy beats Sherwood and Kenwood defeats Parkville, Sherwood would finish ahead of Kenwood only if at least seven of eight games go as listed: Blair over Whitman, Magruder over Randallstown, Richard Montgomery over Clarksburg, Springbrook over Northwest, Franklin over Catonsville, Towson over Dulaney, Perry Hall over Dundalk, Milford Mill over Woodlawn

To reach the playoffs, the No. 4 seed being the top possible outcome, Springbrook must finish ahead of Sherwood and Kenwood.

For Springbrook to finish ahead of Sherwood, Springbrook must beat Northwest, Kennedy must beat Sherwood and at least four of five games must go as listed: Blake over Seneca Valley, Churchill over Damascus, Watkins Mill over Einstein, Randallstown over Magruder, Clarksburg over Richard Montgomery.

If Springbrook defeats Northwest and Parkville beats Kenwood, Springbrook would finish ahead of Kenwood.

3A West Region

If Damascus defeats Churchill, Damascus will get the No. 2 seed.

If Churchill beats Damascus, Damascus will receive the No. 2, No. 3 or No. 4 seed.

The Linganore-Urbana winner will receive the No. 1 seed.

If North Hagerstown beats South Hagerstown, Damascus will finish ahead of South Hagerstown. 2A West Region

Poolesville would claim the No. 3 seed by finishing ahead of Oakdale and Catoctin. Poolesville would claim the No. 4 seed by finishing ahead of only one of Oakdale or Catoctin.

If Rockville beats Poolesville, Poolesville will miss the playoffs.

If Poolesville beats Rockville and Brunswick beats Catoctin, Poolesville would finish ahead of Catoctin. If Poolesville beats Rockville and Catoctin beats Brunswick, Poolesville would finish ahead of Catoctin if at least five of six games go as listed: Kennedy over Sherwood, Richard Montgomery over Clarksburg, Walter Johnson over Bethesda-Chevy Chase, South Hagerstown over North Hagerstown, Tuscarora over Walkersville, Clear Spring over Williamsport.
