During the Community Service Week, unwanted electronics were gathered at a rally hosted by Verizon employees on Oct.25 at the company’s parking lot in Silver Spring.

In 2012, the event collected 14,000 pounds of dispensable electronics, and this year organizers are hoping to get 25,000 pounds.

The initiative is part of the commitment to preserve the environment and help the community to be “green” at work and home.

Televisions, laptop and desktop computers, monitors, mice, keyboards, telephones, audio equipment, and other recyclable items were collected.

County Executive Isiah Leggett and other officials were also at the event.
