Melvin M. Gienau, 97, Germantown, MD, and a native of Deshler, Nebraska, passed away on September 25, 2013, at his home. Born April 3, 1916, the son of the late Milton M. Gienau and Elenora Schwanz Gienau. His wife, Ophelia H. Gienau, preceded him in death. His daughter, Avis Ann Gienau, of California, Maryland, survives him. He worked for the Coast & Geodetic Survey at the U.S. Commerce Department, where he was instrumental in mapmaking for the war effort during World War II. He later retired from the Federal government. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, MD.
The memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, MD, with the Reverend Dave Sonnenberg officiating.
