It was an apocalyptic scene at the Blood and Guts Run Saturday at Bull Run Park. Participants in the 5K run tried their best to escape zombies armed with squirt guns filled with “blood” and maneuver obstacles designed for optimum mess. A giant slip and slide made from soap-covered tarps whisked runners down a large hill into a muddy pool. The “Pumpkin Guts” pit consisted of a pool of pumpkin innards and red dyed water, surrounded by a gang of squirt gun-toting zombies that would soak each runner no matter how much they tried to escape it. A dive into the last blood and guts pit marked the finish line where runners were treated to a dry shirt and live music.
