The Martin Family Band will bring its trademark blend of bluegrass, old-time and Irish tunes to the Cultural Arts Center, 7995 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring. Presented by The Communications and Performing Arts Department of Montgomery College – Takoma/Silver Spring the performance is part of the Communication and Performing Arts Showcase Series. Inspired by the traditions of Old Time Appalachian band music, the Martins — sisters Lydia and Emily, brother Fiddlin’ Claude and parents Jeanean and Carl — have been performing nationally since 1995. The band’s repertoire includes Old Time favorites such as “Molly Put the Kettle On” and “Black and White Rag,” as well as original songs hailing from an upcoming CD by Lydia and Sylvia. Pace yourself in Prince George’s County this weekend, when the Zombie Run sets off at the National Harbor on Saturday. The 5k fun run, limited to 5,000 participants, invites the stalwart to navigate an obstacle-filled onslaught by a shambling zombie horde. Whether a runner, a zombie or merely an observer of the chaos, participants are promised a scary good time. Finally, folk duo Magpie — singer Terry Leonino and guitarist Greg Artzner — will present a 40th anniversary concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at The Barns at Wolf Trap, 1624 Trap Road, Vienna, Va. Founded in Kent, Ohio in 1973, the duo’s four decades’ worth of recordings have provided a conduit for messages of tolerance, preservation, education and love.
