The first of four community forums on proposed changes to school starting and ending times, also known as bell times, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Paint Branch High School, 14121 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville.

The forums will give attendees an opportunity to ask questions and share feedback on Superintendent Joshua P. Starr’s recommendation that the district consider move high school start times up 50 minutes, from 7:25 to 8:15 a.m.; move middle school start times back 10 minutes, from 7:55 to 7:45 a.m.; and keep elementary school start times at 8:50 and 9:15 a.m., but extend the school day 30 minutes.

Starr released his recommendation Oct. 1 and based it on findings of the 2013 Bell Times Work Group, which he formed in December to study bell times and their impact on students’ sleep habits, well-being and success.

More forums will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m.:

• Dec. 16, Richard Montgomery High School, 250 Richard Montgomery Drive, Rockville.

• Jan. 6, Seneca Valley High School, 19401 Crystal Rock Drive, Germantown.

• Feb. 10, Montgomery Blair High School, 51 University Blvd., East, Silver Spring.

Free care for children 4 and older and interpretation services will be provided.
