Prince George’s County library cardholders are gaining new perks thanks to a partnership between the library system and the online training resource Treehouse.
Prince George’s County Memorial Library System cardholders can access free online training to learn how to make iPhone and iPad applications and web development tools, said Michael Gannon, county library associate director of administrative services. The training can take someone from zero knowledge to a working knowledge of computer programming, web development and other technology skills as they complete the training exercise, quizzes and challenges, he said.
“We thought it would be a great workforce development tool,” Gannon said. “It was a win-win situation for the library and Treehouse.”
Normally, using Treehouse would cost money, but the 1,300 tutorials and other exercises are offered for free to library system cardholders because Treehouse, based in Florida, wanted to get into the region, and the library system negotiated a good deal, Gannon said.
