A fire in Gaithersburg left 20 people without their belongings Tuesday morning, but no one was harmed, authorities said.

The blaze tore through a garden-style apartment on Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief Scott Graham, firefighters were battling the blaze shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about 25 minutes, he said.

The cause of the fire and its origin were being investigated Tuesday. The total damage to the garden-style apartments and their contents was about $120,000, Graham said on Twitter.

The Red Cross is assisting victims of the fire.
