Members of the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce and the Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County recently combined to raise food and money for Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg.
More than 70 volunteers brought 196 pounds of food, including canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, rice, pasta, oatmeal, and macaroni and cheese to the Highlands a Germantown on Aug. 15 for Manna’s “Smart Sacks” program.
Smart Sacks provides bags of food for children to take home on Fridays so they can have a healthful source of food over the weekend, when they’re not getting school meals.
The event also raised more than $200 in donations.
The chamber of commerce partners with the volunteer council every year for activities.
The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County recently was named the Points of Light Corporate Volunteer Council of the Year for its work teaching businesses how to better support nonprofits through volunteer or charitable programs.
