Five vehicles, including an armored truck, were involved in a morning crash on Interstate 270 about 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Two people were tranpsorted from the scene of the accident, located in the main southbound lanes of I-270 near the Shady Grove Road exit, according to Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack dispatcher John McDonough. McDonough said the injuries were non-life-threatening.

Hazmat crews were on the scene of the crash because the armored truck’s fuel tank ruptured in the collision, police said. The remaining fuel in the tank was off loaded by a hazmat team, according to Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Graham.

Traffic is getting by the accident on three main lanes and the local lanes. Two lanes of I-270 are still closed while the accident is cleaned up, McDonough said.
