Sure, Rodrigo y Gabriella play acoustic guitars, but that doesn’t mean they won’t (figuratively) tear the walls down while wailing on some Metallica! The duo out of Mexico is set to perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Music Center at Strathmore. Rodrigo y Gabriella have performed songs that have made it onto such soundtracks as “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Puss In Boots.”

Also at Strathmore this weekend, children 8-12 can make puppets with the legendary Blair Thomas & Company tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Children will be able to make their very own rod puppets and perform in a puppet show. On Sunday, Blair Thomas & Company will perform its show “Hard Headed Heart” at 1 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. at CityDance Studio Theater 405. The show is intended for adults, but it remains appropriate for anyone over 14. For more on this show, and other shows at Strathmore, visit their website at strathmore.org.

The Rockville Civic Ballet is set to present “Coppelia,” on Saturday and Sunday at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. The show focuses on a doll named Coppelia and a boy named Franz, who falls in love with her. For more on this show, visit their website.

It’s not every day you get to see a rising singer/songwriter before their career takes off. AJ Smith, a Virginia native and NYU grad, already has a hit song in Australia. He’s set to release his new EP, “Dragons in the Sky,” at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Va., on Sunday. For more information, visit Jammin’Java’s website.
