Heavy rains overnight have caused flooding on some area roadways.

As of 8:15 a.m., the following roads are closed due to flooding, according to ALERT Montgomery:

- Inner Loop 495 exit ramp for River Road (Exit 39)

- Massachusetts Avenue in both directions at Goldsborough Road

- Clara Barton Parkway from the Cabin John Parkway to Chain Bridge

- Little Falls Parkway from River Road to Massachusetts Avenue

“No major accidents have been reported this morning,” according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Graham.

“Fortunately either people are off work or they are heading our warnings to stay off the roads,” he said.

There continues to be an 80 percent chance of showers the rest of the day today with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service has issued a flash flood watch for Montgomery County which means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
