Taylor Gresham, 16, of Upper Marlboro received the Women of Tomorrow Award by the Maryland Women’s Commission on June 20.
The annual award is given to women in recognition of their humanitarian, scholastic and athletic achievement, according to a news release from the Maryland Department of Human Resources. The commission, created by the Maryland Legislature in 1971, focuses on promoting equality of Maryland women, according to the release.
Taylor attends Grace Brethren Christian School in Clinton and is an honors scholar-athlete, who has been accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Presidential Fitness Challenge Award and is a member of the school’s Architecture Club, Runners Club and varsity tennis team, according to the commission release.
Taylor’s mother, Cheryl Gresham, said she also has performed community service through soliciting donations to the Shepherd’s Cove Women’s Shelter in Capitol Heights.
