Jasmine Culpepper, recent graduate of Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, was one of five recipients of the Wright Patman Scholarship Essay Contest, according to a news release from Jay Morris Communications LLC.

Culpepper won a $1,000 scholarship for her essay, which answered the question, “What is the number one financial issue facing young adults today and how can the credit union help to resolve the problem?”

The contest, sponsored by the Congressional Federal Credit Union, only accepted applications from people accepted to an accredited college or technical school.

Winners were chosen based on the strength of their essays, grades and references, according to the release.

Culpepper has been accepted at Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
