The Bethesda Painting Awards were awarded in June.

The awards were established by Carol Trawick in 2005 as downtown Bethesda's annual juried art competition that honors painters from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Barry Nemett of Stevenson won Best in Show, which comes with a $10,000 prize. Christine Gray of Alexandria, Va., toook second place and won $2,000. Hedieh Ilchi of Rockville won third place and $1,000.

Entries were juried by Tim Doud, associate professor of art at American University; Duane Keiser, painter and art blogger; and Christine Neill, professor of painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
