Police arrested Katrina Renee Ben, 35, of the 2700 block of Highway 84 East in Silver Creek, Miss. on June 21, charging her with killing Eric Somuah on June 6, 2012, in his apartment in the 1100 block of East-West Highway.

Ben was the last known person to be with the Somuah, who police found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in his apartment last June, according to Montgomery County Police. Police checked on Somuah’s welfare after family members said he was unreachable and had not been to work, police said.

The Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide, police said.

On the scene, officers noted that the apartment was locked and there were no signs of forced entry, police said. During an interview, Ben said she was Somuah’s neighbor and that the two were involved in a romantic relationship, according to a police report.

A shell casing recovered on the scene was examined by Montgomery County Police-Firearms Examination Unit and determined to be a match with a gun recovered on Interstate 495 near Colesville Road a day after the homicide, police said. After an investigation, police determined Ben purchased a gun at a pawn shop in 2004 that matched the make, model and serial number of the gun recovered.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ben on June 19, 2013, and on June 21, Montgomery County police detectives, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI arrested Ben at her home.

Ben is in a Lawrence County jail pending extradition to Montgomery County, police said.
