A teenager’s body was found in Rock Creek Park Tuesday afternoon and police say it appears a tree fell on him while he was riding his bike.

Joshua Davis, 15, of Chevy Chase was reported missing by his parents last night after he failed to return from a bike ride, according to a release from police.

At about 1:18 p.m. Tuesday, Montgomery County Police, Maryland-National Capital Park Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue units responded for the report of an injured person near the Rock Creek Trail in the area of the 9200 block of Jones Mill Road in Chevy Chase. When officers arrived, they found Joshua’s body in a wooded area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Joshua was riding a bicycle on one of the side trails off of the main Rock Creek Trail when a tree fell and struck him. Investigators have said they believe the recent storms may have caused the tree to fall.

Montgomery County Police Capt. Jim Daly said the body was found lying next to a bike.

Glen Echo Fire Department personnel retrieved the body Tuesday about 3:45 p.m.

This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
