Downed power lines are blocking Georgia Avenue in Brookeville this afternoon, causing Montgomery County Police to shut down the road.

Georgia Avenue has been shut down in both directions between Brookeville Road and Bordly Drive since about 3:45 p.m. and is expected to be closed through rush hour, said Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Innocenti. High winds blew through Montgomery County all day Friday.

The lines came down when a tree fell, although it is unknown if this was weather-related, police said.

Due to the weather, Montgomery College’s Rockville campus had a power outage and was closed Friday afternoon, according to a Montgomery College Alert.
