Montgomery County Police are investigating the Monday stabbing of a 17-year-old male near Stonegate Park in the Silver Spring area.

The teen had been playing basketball around 6:40 p.m. in the park in the 14900 block of Cobblestone Drive when two male subjects approached him and tried to talk to him, said Officer Janelle Smith, a county police spokeswoman. As the victim left the park, the two subjects followed him. A third male confronted him and stabbed him three times with a folding knife.

The victim was taken to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Smith said.

The three males then returned to the park where they took custody of a 5- to 6-year-old girl — who had accompanied the first two subjects into the park — before fleeing in an unknown vehicle, Smith said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the identity of the suspect involved in this incident to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
