A Brookeville man died early Thursday after he was struck by a Metrobus Wednesday night in the Olney area, according to Montgomery County Police.

Ronald Maurice Johnson, 50, fell under and was struck by a Metrobus around 11:08 p.m. as it pulled away from a bus stop on southbound Georgia Avenue just south of the intersection with Olney-Sandy Spring Road, said Officer Janelle Smith, a county police spokeswoman.

“He was hit by the tire but not necessarily run over,” Smith said.

Johnson was taken to Suburban Hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, she said.

“He was up and talking to officers last night,” Smith said.

Johnson, however, passed away around 6 a.m. Thursday after his condition worsened overnight.

The driver of the bus was identified as Anthony Whitaker, 54, of the 2200 block of Shorefield Road in Silver Spring.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous. Attempts to reach Johnson’s family were unsuccessful.
