Roy Barber, a longtime teacher at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, was honored Friday at the school’s Postoak Campus as part of Alumni Weekend. Barber, who has taught performing arts and history at St. Andrew’s, will retire after this year, his 25th, at the Potomac school.
Barber also is president of the Bokamoso Youth Foundation, which encourages a connection between St. Andrew’s students and South African young people. More than 200 St. Andrew’s students have worked with Barber in South Africa and St. Andrew’s has hosted more than 70 students from Bokamoso.
“I have experienced the transformation of young people both here and in South Africa,” Barber said. “Kids who learned to see the world differently and make a deeper connection across the world. Many St. Andrew’s students have gone on to study and be involved in international development, medicine, health care issues, after having had the opportunity to work internationally with the Bokamoso Youth.”
