A Potomac High School senior has been awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship.
Victoria Mason, who maintained a 4.0 grade point average and was the president of the Potomac Chapter of the National Honor Society, was awarded the national scholarship, said Potomac High School Principal Robynne Prince.
“Victoria has always been passionate about her future aspirations and she persevered until she obtained the ‘Golden Ticket,’” Prince said. “We are extremely proud of her.”
Potomac High School is in Oxon Hill.
The Gates Millennium Scholarship, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, awards 1,000 high school seniors with a full-ride scholarship to a college or university of their choosing.
Mason is also involved in Mock Trial and the Lockheed Martin Science and Mathematics Program, and is active in various youth ministries with her church, said Eartha Sanders, a Potomac High School social studies teacher.
Sanders said she nominated Mason for the scholarship.
