A 17-year-old who died on impact after crashing his car into a tree off of Brandywine Road in Clinton Wednesday afternoon has been identified.

Delanta Clark Jr., of the 10800 block of Slippery Elm Court in Clinton, was driving a white Acura in the 11900 block of Brandywine Road when, for unknown reasons, he veered off of the roadway and struck a tree in the wood line bordering the road, said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a Prince George’s County police spokeswoman.

Officers arrived to find Clark dead on the scene. He was the only one in the vehicle, police said.

Rain showers Wednesday afternoon do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, police said.

McKinney said the department’s collision analysis and reconstruction unit is investigating to determine why the teen left the roadway and if speed or alcohol were factors.

Police said Clark was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
