Gaithersburg mother accused of prostituting her teenage daughter to pay off a debt -- Gazette.Net

Prosecutors say a Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a Gaithersburg woman who is charged with prostituting her daughter to a Gaithersburg man.

Charging documents state that Bejarni Rivas, 44, paid the mother $100 each time to have sex with the victim.

The alleged incidents occurred from December 2012 through March 2013 at the Georgian Colonies Club House in Siver Spring.

Court records say Rivas raped the girl, now 15, in the men’s changing room, then gave her $100.

Two weeks later, the victim’s mother told her she had to meet Rivas again, according to the documents.

After meeting at a gas station, Rivas took the girl to the clubhouse, where he tried to perform another sex act on her. She refused, and went into the parking lot, begging her mother not to make her have sex with Rivas, according to the documents.

The mother responded, “I’ve done a lot of bad things to make you have a good life. Go with him,” according to the charging documents

Afte raping the girl again, Rivas took the mother and the victim to a 7-Eleven in Rockville and gave the victim $100, according to the documents. At that point, the mother told the victim she would not have to have sex with Rivas again.

Police discovered the abuse on March 23, documents say. The victim learned that her mother was again going to make her have sex with Rivas and refused to let him into the house when he arrived.

Instead, she ran to a relative’s apartment. Police later learned from relatives of the victim that Rivas had tried to have relationships with other younger family members, according to charging documents.

When the victim’s mother was arrested, she told police she had left the girl alone with Rivas for only about 10 minutes. She said the money Rivas withdrew at the 7-Eleven was for her, not her daughter, the documents stated. During the course of her arrest, she admitted to owing a $5,000 debt to Rivas.

The Gazette generally does not identify people who say they have been victims of a sex crime and is not identifying the girl or her mother.

Rivas is charged with 13 counts of rape, sexual abuse, and other charges.

The mother is charged with 11 similar counts, and was being held in jail on $275,000 bond. Rivas is out on bail and will have a chance to refute charges against him, according to Montgomery County State’s Attorney spokesman Ramon Korionoff.

The Gazette was unable to reach Rivas at his home or the relative at the house where the victim ultimately fled to.
